Material:

1 cup brown rice

2 cups water or vegetable broth

salt to taste)

Instruction:

Wash the rice. Place the brown rice in a fine-mesh strainer and wash it under cold water until the water runs clear. It helps in removing excess starch from rice.

Boil water/broth. In a medium pot, bring 2 cups water or vegetable broth to a boil.

Add the rice. When the water/broth starts boiling, add the washed brown rice to the pot.

Reduce the heat. Lower the heat and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid.

On low flame: Let the rice boil on low flame for about 40-45 minutes. Check the cooking instructions on the rice package as cooking times may vary slightly depending on the type of brown rice you are using.

Check for doneness: After about 40 minutes, check the rice to see if it is cooked or not. The grains should be soft but not mushy. If necessary, continue cooking for a few more minutes.

Let it rest: Once the rice is cooked to your desired tenderness, remove the pot from the heat and leave it covered for about 5-10 minutes. This helps the rice grains to harden slightly and the remaining moisture is also absorbed.

Fluff the rice: After the resting period, use a fork to gently fluff the rice, breaking up any lumps.

Season: Add salt to taste and stir the rice gently to distribute the salt evenly.

Serve: Your brown rice is now ready to be served as a side dish, base of bowls, or in a variety of dishes.

Note: Cooking time may vary depending on the type of brown rice you are using. Some varieties may require slightly more water and cooking time, so be sure to check the package directions and adjust accordingly.
